Any number of things can cause tooth loss. The most common cause is gum disease. Accidents and injuries can also lead to lost teeth. Regardless of the cause, having missing teeth can hurt your self-esteem and cause you other oral health problems by altering your bite and allowing adjacent teeth to shift. Without a replacement tooth, your jawbone can deteriorate, as well.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that acts as an anchor for a replacement tooth. We place a titanium screw into the jawbone to secure a replacement tooth in place. Unlike bridges and partial dentures, dental implants do not rely on neighboring teeth for support. They are stable and long-lasting, an ideal tooth replacement because they look and feel just like your natural teeth. Studies show that dental implants have a 95 percent success rate in cases where patients have sufficient bone structure to anchor them.
Some patients are unable or unwilling to wear dentures. They can be uncomfortable to wear and have to be removed at night. They can also become loose when eating or talking. For these patients, dental implants are ideal. When surgically anchored into the jawbone, the implant fuses with your bone tissue in a process called “osseointegration.” About three to six months after implant placement, your Arbor Dental Group dentist will place a permanent crown over the post (also known as an “abutment”) to complete your smile restoration.
Successful implant placement requires that you have good overall health, good dental health and sufficient bone to hold the implant solidly in place. Your Arbor Dental Group dentist will evaluate you thoroughly and take a panoramic X-ray to see if dental implants are right for you.
Patients who are already wearing full dentures can now have additional security and comfort. With implant-supported dentures, we place several titanium implants in your jawbone to hold your denture. The denture snaps onto the implants, which eliminates the possibility of it slipping or coming loose in your mouth. This stability also improves your physical comfort and confidence.

Dr. Scott was very warm and kind and did great dental work. He made sure I was happy with everything and even followed up a few days later to make sure I was still content with the work done on my teeth. I would definitely recommend Dr. Scott for dental work. - B.T
